Do I need commercial plates to advertise my business with a wrap?
All states have different regulations, but here in NJ the answer is yes. According to the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission if you have commercial tags, you need to properly display the company name, city and state of the business. On the flip-side, if you have advertisements or lettering promoting a service or company, your car is then deemed commercial and you need to get the appropriate plates. This is not the case if you wrap your car with non-advertising graphics such as flames or designs, as this can still be done with personal plates. This all applies to NJ and regulations may vary depending on the state you live in. So, I recommend you check with your local MVC for that area.
